Promo Codes
Create percentage-discount promo codes on any event, pass, or registration, set how many times each code can be used, and let buyers apply them at checkout.
Promo Codes
Promo codes let you give selected buyers a percentage discount on tickets. Each code belongs to a specific event, pass, or registration — you create and manage codes right inside that item's editor.
What promo codes can do
- Percentage discounts — each code takes a whole-number percentage (up to 100%) off the ticket price. The discount applies to the tickets in the order; it does not reduce any donation added during checkout.
- Use limits — every code has a Quantity, the total number of times it can be redeemed. Once a code reaches its limit, buyers who try it see a message that it's no longer available.
- Per-event setup — codes are attached to one event, pass, or registration at a time, so a code for one event won't work anywhere else.
Create a promo code on an event
- From the dashboard, open Box office and select the Events tab.
- Click the event you want to add a code to. The event editor opens.
- In the left panel, expand the Donation & Promos section.
- Next to Promo codes, click + Add. A new code form appears with four fields:
- Promo title — an internal name for the code (for example, "VIP pass").
- Code — the code buyers will type at checkout (for example, "MVP10"). Letters and numbers only; it's automatically converted to uppercase.
- Discount — the percentage off, as a whole number.
- Quantity — how many times the code can be used in total.
- Click Save & close at the top right to save the event with the new code.
You can add multiple codes to the same event by clicking + Add again, and remove a code with the trash icon next to it.
Passes and registrations work the same way: open the pass or registration in its editor and look for the promo codes area under its Sponsors & promos section.
How buyers redeem a code
When an event has at least one promo code, buyers see an Add a promo option in the ticket checkout panel on the event page. (If an event has no codes, the option doesn't appear.)
- The buyer selects Add a promo.
- They type the code into the Promo code field and click Apply. Codes aren't case-sensitive for the buyer — whatever they type is converted to uppercase automatically.
- If the code is valid, the discount is applied to their order and a small tag icon appears next to the total, with a "Promotion applied" note.
If the code isn't valid for that event, the buyer sees "Sorry, that's not a valid promo code." If the code has hit its use limit, they see "Sorry, that code has reached its use limit and is no longer available."
Manage existing codes
Open the event, pass, or registration and expand its promos section to see all of its codes. From there you can:
- Edit a code's title, code text, discount, or quantity, then Save & close.
- Delete a code with the trash icon next to it. Deleted codes stop working immediately for new purchases.
Tip: Set the Quantity to the number of redemptions you actually want to allow — a code can only be used while its redemption count is below that number.
